Yes. The core protection — domain blocklist scanning, real-time warning overlays, Twitter/X scam detection, and 24-hour blocklist updates — is completely free and will always remain free. We believe security shouldn't be paywalled. PRO features like the wallet transaction analyzer, AI Security Advisor, and token risk scorer are available as a paid upgrade via Gumroad.
No. All domain checking happens locally using a cached blocklist stored on your device. There is no network request made per-page-load. The blocklist refreshes in the background every 24 hours using a lightweight background service worker. The performance impact is negligible — typically under 1ms per check.
The only outbound network requests made by the extension are: (1) fetching the updated threat blocklist from public GitHub repositories every 24 hours, and (2) a Gumroad license verification call when you activate a PRO license key. Your visited URLs, wallet addresses, or any personal information are never transmitted anywhere.
No tool can catch 100% of scams, and we will always be upfront about this. Newly created phishing domains may not yet appear in threat databases. Detection results should be treated as strong indicators, not absolute guarantees. Always review transactions and wallet permissions yourself before signing — Crypto Scam Shield is a layer of defense, not a replacement for your own vigilance.
The domain protection layer works for all wallets. The transaction analyzer (PRO) reads data through any EIP-1193 injected provider — this includes MetaMask, Rabby, Coinbase Wallet, and most browser wallets. It reads transaction data only; it never intercepts, modifies, or delays your transactions.
BYOK stands for "Bring Your Own Key." You create a free Groq API key and paste it into the extension settings. Your key is stored locally using chrome.storage.local and is only ever sent directly to Groq's servers when you use the AI feature. We never see your key or your AI queries. This keeps costs free for us and keeps your data private.
PRO licenses may be refunded within 14 days of purchase if the software fails to function as advertised on supported devices. Refunds are processed through Gumroad. Refunds do not cover external cryptocurrency losses or subjective misunderstandings of the tool's stated limitations. Contact us through the Gumroad product page with your license receipt to request a refund.
